STAAR Math Combinations Review with Show Me

Here are some Show me projects you can use to review for STAAR.
The first: Combinations. Look at the following picture. What are all of the combinations you can make with the following pictures?

Blog Response

It's been a while since we have done a blog response, so I'd like to do one today in computer lab. Please answer the following questions:
What your favorite Sports Day event?
Do prefer Math or Reading (yes, you must choose one)?
Do you prefer white milk or chocolate milk?

After we compile the results, we will make a class bar graph to interpret!

March Newsletter

Hello, Everyone!
This year is flying by!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just three weeks left until our big week! The STAAR Writing is around the corner. We have been revisiting personal narratives and expository essays, editing like mad people, and writing until our pencil leads are no more! The students are really progressing, and I'm very proud of all their effort and determination.

We just finished our Matter rotation unit in Science and can now devote our Science time to Writing for the next couple of weeks.

This week, we are going to be studying graphing and probability in Math.

Last week, we went around the school with our iPads to identify lines and angles. See one example here:
Our Writing Camp will take place after Spring Break. We will devote the enitre day for the week to Writing activities. It will be an exciting way to get the kids pumped up for the Writing test.

Don't forget - no school next week - March 12th-16th for Spring Break!

Congrats to Dominic for placing alternate in our Academic meet this past month in Ready Writing.
Congrats, also, to Logan and Kara for placing 1st and 2nd at the Science Fair Regionals!
I'm also proud of our DI team! They did great representing us at Regionals a couple of weeks ago outside of Killeen. Thank you, Mrs. Tramp and all of our parents for your support.

Great job, everyone!!!!

And we are WINNING!!!!

Sharpie ink, caffeinated plants, rubbery eggs, sticky bubble gum, and food energy....it's all part of the job...our students' jobs. ;) I have to say how proud I am of all my kiddos. They struggled (along side many of my parents), to complete these Science Fair projects. It's always amazing when I see something new walk through my door. I love how creative my families get and how involved some of the students really get.

Not only did we have a Geo Bee winner this year, we also have TWO winners going on to regionals!
I promise to get pictures next week. (This week had just a bit of chaos in the mix)
Congratulations to Kara Kaderka and Logan Tramp!!!!

Parents, please make sure to check your child's folder/backpack for their rubric and ribbon. I'm so proud of you all! I will be placing Science Fair project grades online this weekend. I will be taking into consideration presentations from this week.

On a side note, narrative papers went home with rubrics and editing marks today. There were also grades for reading (campus) tests and writing (STAAR District) tests stapled to the composition. I will be sending expository grades at the end of next week.

We are currently working on hooks and leads. In Math, we are continuing to work on equivalent fractions, comparing and ordering fractions, and numberlines.

Please work on multiplication and division fluency if you are still struggling. We will be doing more timed tests the closer we get to STAAR.

Congratulations, again, everyone!!!! :)

Welcome Back!

STAAR Writing
I hope you have all had a restful holiday and are ready to get going again. Now that we are back, we realize we are just that much closer to the STAAR test. Our first test will be after Spring Break. We will have a two day Writing exam. This week, we are preparing for that by taking a mock STAAR test. The students are doing wonderfully. I'm very proud of their hard work and stamina. Please make sure you speak to your student about taking their time and revisiting their writing. It's evident this second day that they want only to rush through it because they have exhausted themselves. We need them to power through and show what rock stars they really are!!

Geo Bee
On another note, congratulations to Josh!!! He won the GeoBee contest for Spring Hill and will be going on to district. We are so proud of him! ;)

Science Fair
I know you are waiting diligently for your Science Fair packets. My apologies! I'm still looking through them but will have them back to you on Thursday. I will be pushing the due date back to the 18th, however. The projects look great so far! Good job, everyone!

Book Orders
Book orders went home last week. They are due Friday, January 13th.

Holiday
Please note: There will be NO SCHOOL MONDAY, JANUARY 16TH in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
